None of the things you raise are reasons not to do something more interesting, only problems to resolve in the design process. What is available on the market today is also not a solution because people aren't inspired what's on offer and so uptake is still modest. Phillips are even starting to advertise their bulbs to try and drive sales, but their designs are just like everyone else's so why will people bother? This give a greater chance of mercury, phosphor, and glass slivers being exposed to humans and pets. Enough with pollution and toxic substances being introduced to our environment.
